A Palatka man has earned a dubious distinction: Alger Scott has been arrested 101 times.

The most recent time came Wednesday when the 54-year-old was charged with selling drugs within 1,000 feet of a school.

His rap sheet includes charges of petty theft, drug possession, trespassing, aggravated assault, and armed robbery. Most were misdemeanors.

State prison records show he has served stints at local jails and about three years in prison since the late 1990s.

Putnam County Circuit Court Judge Art Nichols said communities everywhere deal with habitual offenders like Scott, whom he says take up time and jail space.
