Customs officers seized 750 pounds of headless rats destined for London eateries frequented by Africans who consider rats a delicacy, according to the Daily Mail.

The rats were being smuggled from Ghana and were found at Tilbury Docks in London when officials inspecting a shipment of synthetic hair discovered the giant cane rats, which had been smoked to improve their taste.

Experts say the unrefrigerated meat could carry diseases such as foot-and-mouth, anthrax, the Ebola virus, tuberculosis and cholera, the Daily Mail reported.

A 42-year-old West African woman was arrested in connection with the crime.
