The Utah trooper who used a Taser to subdue a stubborn motorist — a confrontation widely viewed on YouTube — is back on duty after taking a verbal communications course.

Supervisors say Trooper Jon Gardner's "attitude" was a problem and provides a case study for training.

Col. Lance Davenport said Garner learned better conflict resolution skills after taking administrative leave in September.

Davenport said the Utah Highway Patrol is wrapping up an internal affairs investigation and earlier this week questioned the driver, Jared Massey of Vernal, Utah.

Massey said investigators told him "policy violations" were identified from the traffic stop to questioning. Gardner's superiors previously concluded the trooper felt threatened and was justified in jolting the motorist with a Taser gun.

Massey, who argued with the trooper outside his vehicle, had refused to accept a speeding ticket.
