The flooding in central Illinois is being blamed for the death of a 36-year-old man.

The man was going into his flooded basement in Pontiac on Wednesday night when he slipped and fell forward into the water, authorities said.

Friends pulled the man back onto the steps and he was rushed to OSF Saint James Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, they said.

An autopsy is planned. The man's name isn't being released.

Authorities also blamed flooding from this week's storms for the death of a Paxton man. Rescuers pulled 24-year-old Bradley Swan from a submerged vehicle after it was swept from a road into a flooded field.
