A Long Island man was being held on attempted murder charges after, police said, he attacked his wife with a frying pan and then stabbed her with a kitchen knife.

Nassau County Police said 82-year-old Oscar Campbell was arrested at his North Massapequa home at 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Police said Campbell struck his 84-year-old wife Alma with a frying pan and then stabbed her in the stomach and about the face and head. Mrs. Campbell was able to run to a neighbor who called police.

She was taken to Nassau University Medical Center. Police said Mr. Campbell was also taken to Nassau University Medical Center for evaluation.
