You know what I would love to see in a debate? Answers.

Simple, clear answers — the shorter, the better.

Are you for giving driver's licenses to illegals: yes or no?

For or against this war: Yes or no?

Without the caveats, without the tortured explanations. The "yes, but" or the "no, but let me explain."

Simple responses.

I could be wrong, but I really think people value conviction. Sometimes, even when they disagree with that conviction.

I suspect most admire a strong point of view regardless.

Perhaps it's a good thing I'm not running for Congress.

Because you know what my platform would be? I'm not bringing home the bacon. I'm not building you a bridge or a hospital or a school.

Nothing. Nada. Zippo.

I know... see how far "that" campaign would go.

But imagine if every politician did that. If they stopped trying to buy your vote with programs you don't need, but with principles you do.

I'll tell you what: It'd make for interesting races and even better debates.

Because I'd be quite clear: Tax cuts work. Government spending does not.

Licenses for people who shouldn't be here is nuts. Anyone who disagrees with me is nuts.

It'd be interesting, I guarantee you that. And I'm sure I'll be called a nut. But better a nut who gets to the point, than a nut who doesn't even have one.
