Alaska Woman Finds Corpse in Freezer

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – A woman opened her chest freezer and made a grisly discovery: a body wrapped in plastic.

Police are investigating the incident as a homicide and have obtained an arrest warrant for a suspect, presumably the women's grandson, who left the apartment were the body was found Saturday afternoon.

As of Sunday, the identity of the victim had not been determined, police said. Police have not released the gender of the victim.

The second-degree murder warrant was issued for Elmer Seetot, 22, an Alaska Native man listed as 5-foot-9-inches tall and about 200 pounds. Seetot was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and white tennis shoes with no laces.

William Peterson, who lives nearby, said he saw one of his neighbors on Saturday afternoon enter her home at 3222 W. 69th Ave. in the Sand Lake neighborhood.

"Not too long after she went in she came out screaming," he said.

Another neighbor, George Scanlan, said he saw and heard two distraught women. One was elderly.

"They were crying with a lot of emotions, obviously there was something wrong going on. You could hear it from my apartment here," Scanlan said.

Anchorage police took a 911 call just before 1 p.m.

Police spokesman Lt. Paul Honeman said the woman told officers she shares the apartment with her grandson, who is in his early 20s. She allowed him to have a few friends over on Friday night, Honeman said.

The woman said that when she found the body, one young man, Seetot, was still in the apartment. She said Seetot made apologetic comments.

"(He) says something to effect of, "I'm sorry ... I'm sorry," Honeman said.

Seetot took off on foot. Police used a dog to search for him, but were unsuccessful.

Detectives Sunday were working with the State Medical Examiner's Office to establish the identity of the body and the cause of death, Honeman said.

The homicide is Anchorage's 21st this year.

Neighbors said there was a party at the house Friday night but they did not see or hear anything out of the ordinary.
