Security Concerns Divert Rice Motorcade, Delays Entry to West Bank

JERUSALEM – Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's vehicle was briefly diverted into an Israeli fire station on Monday due to security concerns as she traveled to the West Bank for talks with Palestinian officials, authorities said.

Her motorcade stopped near a crossing point into the West Bank as security officials investigated a suspicious vehicle, said police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby. It turned out to be a false alarm, he said.

After about 15 minutes, the convoy was allowed to continue.
