A 72-year-old British man may be a sperm donor for his own grandchild, BBC reports.

The man and the potential parents-to-be, all of whom wish to remain anonymous, are being screened by the London Women's Clinic, and preliminary tests show the sperm to be viable.

Dr. Kamal Ahuja, co-medical director of the clinic, said the man and the couple, who are in their 30s, spent many months in discussion with independent organizations and ethics committees before reaching the decision to go ahead with the treatment.

Any baby born using the sperm would be the grandfather's genetic child and its father's half brother.
