Sex Assault Suspect Mistakenly Freed By Police Surrenders

A Maryland man suspected of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl turned himself in to police Monday after officers mistakenly released him from custody.

John Henri Palmont, 27, surrendered with his attorney at the Prince George's County Processing Office at 2 p.m. Monday, police told FOX News.

Police said the suspect knocked on the victim's door on Aug. 3 and asked to use the telephone. The girl let him in, and he displayed a handgun before sexually assaulting her.

Palmont was arrested Thursday, but he was accidentally let go Friday night after he was treated for injuries he sustained during his arrest. He was charged with f irst and second-degree sexual offense, first and second-degree assault and second degree rape.
