POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A Broward County sheriff's deputy was shot and killed early Friday in the second shooting of a deputy in that county this week.
The shooting happened around 1:20 a.m. and Deputy Chris Reyka, 51, was brought to a hospital, where he died, Broward County Sheriff Ken Jenne said.
The shooting happened near a Walgreens in Pompano Beach, north of Miami.
Reyka had seen two cars parked behind the store and became suspicious. As he got out of his patrol car, he was ambushed and shot, a sheriff's office spokesman said.

Police were still searching for the suspect.
Friday's shooting came just days after another deputy, Maury Hernandez, was shot in the head Monday after a traffic stop. A suspect has been charged with attempted first-degree murder in that shooting. The deputy was hospitalized in critical condition.
"Hernandez is lying in bed ... clinging to life, fighting for life," Jenne said. "We were hit very hard this week."
Reyka had been on the force for 18 years. He is survived by his wife and four children. He has a son serving in the Marines who was scheduled to go to Iraq in two weeks, Jenne said.
Sheriff's officials were offering a $20,000 reward for information that leads to the killer's arrest.
