It does seem strange that populists running for president brag about how much money they're raising to become president.
I mean, on the one hand, they're bashing "two Americas," but clearly taking dough — and lots of it — from a very privileged America. Not exclusively — but mostly.
How can you look at yourself in the mirror if you're too busy looking at who's lining your wallet?
Am I the only one who sees the hypocrisy in bashing the rich and then bragging about the fact your campaign coffers are rich?
You can't have it both ways.
It would be like me bragging about sitting on the President's Council on Physical Fitness, then going to my favorite pastry shop to celebrate.
It's weird. It's phony. It's wrong.
I just think if you're going to talk the talk, you might as well walk the walk.
If you say rich guys are bad, don't take money from them.
If you say special interests are running the show, don't let them run your campaign.
If you own multiple homes, ease up on the multiple hits on those who do as well.
All I know is Ronald Reagan had no problem with rich people, which could explain his popularity with average people who wanted to be rich people. But if that's not your thing and railing against the rich is, then be consistent.
I'm not saying you have to know three bucks for a gallon of milk is cheap these days, but you should know that 400 bucks for a haircut is expensive any day.
Because Americans have a way of seeing through double-talk. They also have a way of seeing through something worse: phonies.
