Texas Psychology Professor Arrested for Alleged Terror Threat

FORT WORTH, Texas – A psychology professor was charged with threatening people and hinting about bringing a submachine gun to campus.

A psychologist was expected to evaluate Texas Christian University professor Charles Frederick Bond Jr. on Thursday, officials said. He was being held without bond.

The 53-year-old professor was arrested at his home June 1 and charged with making a terrorist threat, a misdemeanor punishable by up to 180 days in jail.

In a news release, university officials said Bond has exhibited "extremely inappropriate conduct and made threatening remarks to some campus members."

Defense attorney Tim Clancy said his client is innocent. He said Bond has been at the university for more than 20 years, with an exemplary record and no criminal history.

"We feel he is not a threat to himself or the community, and we are optimistic that the case will be resolved," Clancy said.

Prosecutor Sylvia Mandel declined to comment.

According to articles and the university Web site, Bond has taught for 28 years and researches deception and lying.

He is on administrative leave and is not allowed on campus, the university said.

Bail conditions will be set next week.
