Frontier, American and United Airlines canceled several flights. United, the carrier with the most volume at DIA, reported canceling 60 flights, airline spokeswoman Megan McCarthy said.
National Weather Service meteorologist Robert Koopmeiners said a wind gust of 101 mph were recorded at Carter Lake.
There were sporadic reports of damage from flying debris across the Front Range, including downed tree limbs in Fort Collins.
"It's going to be an ugly night," Koopmeiners predicted as high winds were expected through Thursday morning's commute.
Snowfall totals for the mountains were not immediately available.
