A 9-year-old girl was found safe Tuesday morning at her aunt's home, 13 hours after she was reported missing, police said.

Julia A. Kuhn was found in New Haven, about 16 miles away from her home in a rural area near Fort Wayne, said Allen County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Stone.

"Officers are still trying to determine how she got there and what happened while she was missing," Stone said.

Kuhn had been last seen by her family Monday afternoon, Allen County Sheriff Ken Fries said. Her family said she ran into a barn with her brothers to escape a storm but did not return with them.

About 150 people and a crew in a police helicopter searched for the girl Monday.
