A Utica (YOO'-tih-kuh), New York, girl is being called a hero for protecting her little brother from an oncoming truck. Her mother says the eight-year-old put herself between the truck and her two-year-old brother, just before they were both hit.
Madison Yesford suffered a broken collarbone and other injuries but her brother Matthew was only slightly injured when they were hit by the truck Tuesday.
Police say the boy apparently chased after the family's cat as it ran into the street. Madison ran after her brother, and both were struck by a truck. The driver hasn't been charged.
Their mother says doctors at a Syracuse hospital told her Madison must have lifted Matthew off the ground just before impact, or else the boy would have gone underneath the truck.
