It's an old farmhouse with original Italianate detailing and a rear wood frame addition, and it's for sale for only $1.

This small investment will turn into a larger one for the buyer, though, because he or she must agree to move it to a new location, reports The Illinois News-Democrat. Further costs would come from a post-move renovation.

The current location of the home is an area surrounded by new homes and businesses, and developer Tamar Development LLC is trying to save the home from being torn down by selling it for a meager price.

Anne Haaker, deputy state historical preservation officer with the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, said costs for moving the home would depend on factors such as the distance the home would be moved and the condition of it. The developer has offered $12,000 to help with those costs, reports the News-Democrat.

Haaker isn't too optimistic but said the state has to try and save properties whenever possible.

"We don't sell many, but you never know," she told the newspaper.
