Here are some tips if you want an accurate thermometer:

In-ear thermometers give you quick readings, but are expensive. They take the temperature using infrared and are probably the most accurate other than the old-fashioned mercury ones. By the way, health officials say you should contact your local health department to dispose of the glass mercury ones. I’d keep mine just in case… but that’s what they recommend.

Don’t waste time or money on the disposable thermometer strips. Dr. Manny says they just don’t work that well and are prone to being used incorrectly.
