An elementary school teacher resigned after police confirmed that she taped a five-year-old student to his desk last month.

Maki Monje resigned last week, citing personal reasons.

A police spokeswoman says Monje wasn't charged with a crime because police determined it was not child abuse.

Police say Monje used some sort of packing tape to bind the child across his shoulders and onto his desk for a short amount of time. The tape never touched the child's skin, and he wasn't injured.

Witnesses say Monje was trying to get the boy to sit still.

The boy's mother filed a report last month after the boy told her his teacher had taped him to the table because he wouldn't put his head down.

A Brevard Public Schools spokeswoman confirmed Monje's resignation but was unsure whether Monje had violated a school board policy.
