The medical examiner who conducted Anna Nicole Smith's autopsy will delay making his findings public at the request of Florida's Seminole Police Department, he told FOX News on Thursday.
Broward County Medical Examiner Dr. Joshua Perper said he met Wednesday with Seminole police, who told him that additional evidence had been obtained in Smith's untimely death at age 39.
Perper said it is unlikely but possible that he may change his conclusion based on this additional evidence, so he is postponing his determination for a week or two.
He also said he had spoken to everyone who had contact with Smith in the days before she died — except Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, who refused to talk to him.
California's medical board has opened an inquiry as investigators try to determine if there was any misconduct by Kapoor, who reportedly prescribed methadone to Smith under an alias.
An attorney for Kapoor, Ellyn Garofalo, said he has nothing to add to the investigation into the cause of Smith's death, and that he has been "appropriately cautious about protecting the confidentiality of Anna Nicole Smith's treatment," TMZ reported.
She added: "Dr. Kapoor's treatment of Ms. Smith was at all times medically sound, and he will continue to cooperate with any formal requests from authorities."

FOX News forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden said it is unusual to make a delay at this point in an autopsy.
"The cause of death should be patently obvious at this time ... it sounds like there may be issues about whether it's a homicide or not," he said.
Smith's bodyguard talked to the Seminole Police Department Wednesday about the circumstances surrounding her death, TMZ reported.
Cops went to the house of "Big Moe" Wednesday morning in Pembroke Pines, Fla., because they had questions about the security camera video at the hotel where Smith died.
Big Moe told the cops Smith was on "heavy doses" of prescription drugs the day she died, including flu medicine and antibiotics, sources told TMZ.
Sources said Moe also told cops that in the months leading up to Smith's death, her companion, Howard K. Stern, gave her "some types of drugs," though he didn't specifically know which. As he put it, "Anna was in a cloud."
Stern and Smith's ex-boyfriend Larry Birkhead claim to be the father of Smith's 6-month-old daughter, Dannielynn, and are battling her estranged mother for custody of the child.
