The trouble begins… now! Does John's My Word make your blood boil? Click here to listen live to The John Gibson Show on FOX News Radio (weekdays, 6-9 p.m. ET). It's your chance to call in and argue with John!

E-mailers are hammering me today for saying something provocative yesterday.

I said: "If Democrats who hate Bush and who hate the war in Iraq win, the insurgents win. I'm sorry, but it's true. America will set a date to get out and jihad will have carried the day."

I'll repeat: Sorry, but it's true.

Democrats like John Kerry and John Murtha want a date to get out, and they are going to be difficult to deny if the Dems win. It isn't going to be reasonable to expect the moderate Dems to hold off the wild-eyed lefties if the wild-eyed lefties are the ones who mobilize the left to get out and vote. They are going to insist on their precious withdrawal date, and they will get it. And the insurgents will have won a great victory.

Hey, don't take my word for it. Take the word of Michael Scheuer, who was once the head of the bin Laden unit at the CIA and wrote the book "Imperial Hubris," which, by the way, was very critical of the war in Iraq.

He says today, Usama bin Laden is "on the verge of seeing the forces he leads and inspires knock off their third infidel government. Not bad for a guy running rock to rock and cave to cave."

Scheuer counts Spain, Thailand — where a military coup has installed a Muslim as the new premier — and Bush's Republicans. To that list I would add Tony Blair.

Usama knocks off governments with the help of voters — in Spain, in Britain, in America — and with the help of the military, in Thailand.

What's so hard to figure out about this? Democrats — OK, correction — leftists want America out of Iraq and so does bin Laden's insurgency. Iraqis may want us to stay to protect them from each other but that is not going to matter to the "let's redeploy now" crowd.

Look, I understand why people are unhappy with the war and don't like the way it has turned out. But there has to be some perspective here other than the notion that Democrats have to beat Republicans.

If Democrats are going to hammer away on the war — bad idea, badly run, bad situation, bad future, bad quagmire, bad exit plan, etc — all they are doing is mouthing the talking points of the insurgents. The insurgents kill Americans... bad plan America. The insurgents kill Iraqis... bad plan America. The insurgents don't give up... you're really stuck now America.

And if we go vote with them they will logically conclude they won the war.

But don't take my word for it. Read Michael Scheuer in today's Washington Times. He isn't a TV pontificator, of course. He was in charge of the bin Laden unit at the CIA.

I know, I know. What could he know?

That's My Word.
