Search crews from several counties joined the effort Wednesday to find two boys who disappeared from a home near the Dan River.

Jacob White, 3, and Jeffrey White Jr., 4, were reported missing about 1 p.m. Tuesday after wandering away from a home, said Monty Stevens, the director of Stokes County Emergency Medical Services.

"We're trying to get every little bit of resources together to see if we can locate them," said Joe Holder, a dispatcher for the Stokes County sheriff's office.

Search dogs tracked the boys' scent to the river, which has been swollen by recent rainfall.

The boys' mother, Melissa White, said she was at a friend's house when she was called about the boys disappearing.

"It's not like them to wander off," she said.

White said that because of a custody dispute between her and her estranged husband, Jacob and Jeffrey lived with his parents, who were at the house, along with the boys' father, according to WGHP-TV in High Point.
