At least five people were shot when a motorist went on a shooting spree through several neighborhoods before fleeing, police said Saturday.

The victims, including one who was in critical condition, were shot Friday night in the borough of Queens. The shooter apparently targeted victims at random, police said.

Police said they were interviewing a man they described as a "person of interest" who had been spotted in a vehicle matching the description of one being sought. They had said they believed the shooter was driving a damaged green vehicle, possibly a Cadillac.

According to preliminary police reports, the shootings began around 7:20 p.m. Four victims each had a single gunshot wound to their leg, arm or hand. A fifth victim was shot in the neck and was in critical condition early Saturday at New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens, police said.
