A second former Chicago police officer has pleaded guilty to charges that he robbed drug dealers for thousands of dollars worth of marijuana and cocaine.

Darek Haynes, a nine-year veteran of the department, entered his plea in U.S. District Court Tuesday, one day after fellow officer Broderick Jones pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy and other charges.

In all, five former city police officers have been charged with taking part in a ring that roamed the city's South Side, stopping dealers and taking drugs. They were charged with conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine.

Two other former officers have already pleaded guilty to participating in the ring. One man has pleaded not guilty.

Haynes faces 15 to 40 years in prison when he is sentenced in January.
