A cargo vessel carrying 700 tons of fertilizer capsized Saturday in rough weather off southern Bangladesh, and all those aboard have been rescued, an official said.

The M.V. Shumi sank near Kumira point in the Bay of Bengal when it was traveling from the port of Chittagong to nearby Sandwip with 16 crew and security guards, said Capt. Habibur Rahman, a senior official of the government's Mercantile Marine Department.

Chittagong is about 135 miles south of the capital, Dhaka.

Bangladesh navy patrol teams rescued all the crew and guards from the rough sea after the accident, he said.
