SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A man accused of plowing a minivaninto an inflatable "Moon Walk" at a church carnival was charged Wednesday with 28 felonies.
Timothy H. Buss, 34, of Troy, was arraigned in 46th District Court on 13 counts of felony assault with intent to murder, 13 counts of felony assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of leaving the scene of an accident and one count of malicious destruction of property. He could face life in prison if convicted of the most serious charges.
Buss stood mute before Judge Susan M. Moiseev and requested a court-appointed attorney. Bail was set at $1.3 million.
Nine children and four adults were injured when Buss' 1994 Plymouth Voyager drove into the carnival Sunday afternoon at the Alex Manoogian School, which was the site for the fair put on by St. John's Armenian Church.
One woman suffered a crushed pelvis and was still hospitalized, but none of the injuries was believed to be life threatening, The Detroit News reported.
A conference in the case was scheduled for May 31, followed by a preliminary exam June 2.
