SAGINAW, Mich. – A teenager pleaded guilty to shooting a fellow student at Saginaw High School and is expected to be sentenced to at least 12 years in prison.
The victim was hospitalized with a chest wound but survived the attack.
Clarence W. Russell III, 16, pleaded guilty Tuesday to assault with intent to commit murder in the Oct. 20 shooting of Daniel Foster, also 16, and to possessing a firearm while committing a felony.
During trial earlier this year, Russell claimed he acted in self-defense, but the judge declared a mistrial after a former school district employee said there was a higher-quality surveillance tape of the shooting than the one used at trial.
Saginaw County Circuit Judge William A. Crane will sentence Russell on June 1. Russell's agreement with prosecutors calls for at least 12 years in prison.
