Winds gusting to more than 80 mph Monday night blew over semitrailer trucks, downed power lines and uprooted trees.

Four semis on Interstate 15 and at least two on Interstate 80 were toppled. No injuries were reported.

At one point, I-15 was closed in both directions at Point of the Mountain (search) because the trucks blocked traffic. The northbound lanes eventually reopened, but the southbound lanes remained closed late Monday.

Several trees were toppled in Salt Lake City (search), knocking out power to homes and businesses.

Utah Power & Light (search) said at the peak outage, 8:49 p.m., there were 18,000 customers in northern Utah and southeastern Idaho without electricity.

The high winds were in advance of a front that lowered temperatures 20 degrees and dropped up to an inch of rain in some areas by late Monday.
