The Republican National Committee (search) raised $11.6 million in the month of February to give it more than a 2-1 advantage in money raised over the Democrats (search) during the first two months of this year.

Republicans announced Friday the amount the party raised in February, in addition to $10.2 million raised in January. The GOP had $22.4 million on hand at the end of February.

The RNC reported getting 464,432 individual donations from more than 423,000 donors in the first two months of the year. More than 37,000 new donors have contributed to the RNC this year and the average donation was $46.54, the RNC reported.

Democrats announced in early March that new party Chairman Howard Dean (search) had raised $3.4 million in the first three weeks as head of the party he took over Feb. 12.

The DNC reported in early March that it had raised nearly $9.6 million at that point in 2005, but has not announced how much money it has in the bank.
