In what was probably the worst timed speech by any politician in human history, Senator Ted Kennedy (search) said the following just days before the Iraqi election:
“Our military and the insurgents are fighting for the same thing—the hearts and minds of the people — and that is a battle we are not winning."
Three days later, Iraqis voted in overwhelming numbers, not only with their hearts and minds, but also with tremendous courage to brave terrorist threats and exercise their vote for democracy. And now there’s more evidence that Iraqi hearts and minds have never been more dead set against the terrorists, who continue to make their life hell.
A huge demonstration took place in Iraq this week, about which the AP reported: "Thousands of mostly black-clad Iraqis protested Tuesday outside a medical clinic where a suicide car bomber (search) killed 125 people a day earlier, braving the threat of another attack as they waved clenched fists, condemned foreign fighters and chanted 'No to terrorism!' "
Meanwhile, OpinionJournal.com notes that Ted Kennedy’s January speech about the hearts and minds of Iraqis has been quietly removed from his Web site.
