OK, first off, I was not flirting with Paula Abdul (search) and I don't know how to even do it with my eyes as she playfully accused me of, but some will just not believe me.
With that out of the way, let me update you on my life in Jacksonville (search). It's cold, it's rainy, but the demeanor of the Jacksonville people make this place a true Super Bowl city. I cannot express to you how friendly the people down here are and how happy they seem to have the biggest game in sports in the NFL's second smallest city.
We had a lot of fun on the show Friday and I just loved surprising E.D. with her brother and his family. They were able to whip up E.D.'s family history complete with pictures and I could feel her blushing one thousand miles away. What a great family! And I know she going to pay me back one day and let me say now that I'm quite nervous thinking about the prospect, because I have had a lot of facial work done along with bicep implants and I'd hate to see those old shots hit national TV!
Along with talking sports, we also segued into politics with two football guys turned political heavyweights: former vice presidential candidate Jack Kemp (search) and Sen. George Allen, R-Va. Not sure if I made the right decision, but Jack Kemp asked me to stay away from the Oil-for-Food (search) scandal and I did, which was agonizing. With the investigation ongoing it could be legal trouble, so I kept it on the sideline. He was a great guest who has been to 38 Super Bowls. Unbelievable! As for Senator George Allen, he was truly in his element in a sports backdrop talking about the game his dad lost in 1973 and when his brother was dropped as G.M. of the Raiders in 2003. Don't be surprised if he goes for his version of the Lombardi Trophy by going for president in '08.
Just got back from Alltel Stadium with Ed Goren, president of FOX Sports. It was a great opportunity to see the brand new Gopher Cam: 12 cameras in the ground and four in the pylons by the end zone. Look for the video over the weekend. Also look for my encounter with Paul McCartney on Saturday! Also, look for a special surprise for Juliet Huddy on Saturday morning. She doesn't read the blog, so I know this won't give it away.
We will try to bring you all the sites and sounds from this Super Bowl week and I can all but guarantee a close contest! The Eagles are too good to fold and the Pats too experienced to come up flat!
Finally, a true special thanks to Bookmark in Jacksonville, who packed their store for my signing Thursday night. Hard to imagine a better night or a nicer group of people! Next stop, Orlando. Please check www.briankilmeade.com for details.
I'll try and blog again Monday!
