I'll take that Oscar now.
Did you notice? The new FOX News campaign for the holiday season is based on the concept that it's a wonderful place, it was a wonderful year and, for that matter, it's a wonderful life, isn't it?
So, for the role of the evil Mr. Fossil, head of a once upon a time major cable news network — yes, fossil, as in very old and very dead — the director decided I should get the role and make my acting debut.
That nice Steve Doocy (search) plays the nice guy TV anchor from FOX News who I am trying to steal for my old and tired network. Of course that nice Doocy will have none of it and refuses my offer.
You know, I kind of liked that acting stuff. I got to wildly expand on small kernels of truth from my own self, of course — getting on in years, full of myself, very harrumphy.
What do you think? Did I pull it off?
I know. De Niro probably has nothing to worry about. And, as you may have noticed, I had to paint on eyebrows to try to make run at Jack Nicholson. But at least in the very narrowly defined category of "Old Hack News Anchor Makes a Stab at Acting," I think I did pretty well.
