A Northern California Marine serving in Iraq is defending the equipment he and other Marines (search) are using.

When told about complaints from disgruntled soldiers to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Corporal Joshua Munns of Redding said it isn't easy to make the best armor.

Munns is among the Marines patrolling the former insurgent stronghold of Fallujah -- some in open Humvees.

He says there are advantages and disadvantages to open Humvees (search).

The 21-year-old corporal explains though enclosed Humvees provide bulletproof windows, the extra protection reduces visibility during an attack.

Munns also says he prefers mobility over the weight of extra body armor.
