The Foxlight: Weekend Movies

"Friday Night Lights" and "Taxi" hit theaters this weekend in today's Foxlight.

"Friday Night Lights" (search) star Billy Bob Thornton got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Thursday -- as well as a very public special greeting from Angelina Jolie.

She placed a full-page ad in Variety that says "Billy, I love your brilliant mind. Congratulations! With love and respect always, Angie."

Thornton joked, "You know, it's funny -- I've only met Angie Dickinson once." And the movie? A home run -- sorry -- touchdown, according to most reviews. "Everyone earns a varsity letter in acting," according to Gene Shalit. The other big surprise here is the acting debut of country star Tim McGraw, which has most critics yelling "Yee-ha."

Also new this week -- "Taxi" (search) with Queen Latifah and Jimmy Fallon. One critic says this film alone could "total Fallon's career before it even gets out of the parking lot." He's a cop who loses his driver's license and is forced to chase crooks from the back of Latifah's cab. Memo to Tina Fey and "Saturday Night Live": tell him to come back to "Weekend Update," all is forgiven.

The real question is whether or not football can send Will Smith to Davy Jones' locker. "Shark Tale" may take the biggest bite again this weekend.
