"Hellboy," "Ned Kelly" and "Showgirls" are new on DVD in today's Foxlight.

In a year when comic books are ruling at the box office, some have stumbled. New on DVD this week is "Hellboy" (search) with the beastly Ron Perlman -- the one that isn't married to Ellen Barkin.

Critics like Roger Ebert said "Hellboy" vibrated with its own kind of energy. At least Perlman looks like he's having a campy kind of good time in the film.

Meanwhile, how can a movie with Heath Ledger, Orlando Bloom, Naomi Watts, Geoffrey Rush and Rachel Griffiths possibly fail? Well, did you go see "Ned Kelly" (search) when it was in theaters? Bad guys in Australia in 1843 can't lose, right? E! Online liked it, but the New York Post gave it a D and said Heath's string of losers continues unbroken. Ouch.

Finally, critics hated it. But kitsch fans made it a cult favorite. It's "Showgirls!" (search) Yeah, baby, yeah! Elizabeth Berkley's career-ender is the same kind of fun trainwreck we haven't seen since the likes of "Valley of the Dolls." I especially like the deluxe version they sent me with shot glasses and pasties.
