WASHINGTON – In a tight race in South Carolina, John Kerry (search) is hoping a nudge from two of the state's influential politicians will persuade voters to choose him over native son John Edwards (search) in Tuesday's first-in-the-South presidential primary.
Kerry is running a new television commercial highlighting his endorsements from South Carolina Rep. Jim Clyburn (search) and Sen. Ernest "Fritz" Hollings (search).
"That fella. He can go all the way," Hollings says in the 30-second ad. It also quotes Clyburn as saying that Kerry will "bring our country together."
Kerry is fighting for the lead in South Carolina with Edwards.
