Istanbul's (search) governor said Wednesday that DNA tests have confirmed the identities of two synagogue homicide bombers as Turkish nationals.

Mesut Cabuk, 29, and Gokhan Elaltuntas, 22, carried out Saturday's attacks outside two Istanbul synagogues that killed 23 people and wounded 300 others, Gov. Muammer Guler (search) said.

Guler said the type of the attack was similar to those carried out by Al Qaeda (search) terrorist network.

Al Qaeda has claimed responsibility for the attacks but officials were trying to authencitate that claim.
