A U.S. soldier was killed in a land mine (search) explosion in Beiji (search) and a second was slightly wounded, the military reported Monday.

The soldiers, from the Bravo Company of the Task Force 366 Armored Battalion (search), were on a patrol around 9 p.m. Saturday when their vehicle struck a land mine, said Capt. Craig Childs, of the 1-22nd Infantry Regiment.

The death brings to 95 the number of U.S. soldiers known to have been killed in hostile action since May 1 when President Bush declared major combat over.
