Let's check out some political stories we found Below the Fold:
Questionable Report?
Byron York of National Review reports that a study recently published in the Psychological Bulletin, a publication of the U.S. Psychological society, purports to prove that conservatives (search) are closed-minded bigots.
The authors declare that conservatives suffer from "mental rigidity and closed mindedness … lowered self-esteem … fear, anger and aggression; pessimism, disgust and contempt."
The authors add: "One is justified in referring to Hitler, Mussolini, Reagan and Limbaugh as right-wing conservatives… because they all preached a return to an idealized past and favored or condoned inequality in some form."
By the way, American taxpayers paid $1.2 million for this trail-blazing bit of scholarship.
Change of Heart?
Sayyid Hussein Khomeini, the grandson of the Ayatollah Khomeini, calls Iran's government "the worst dictatorship in the world" and says he welcomes liberation by Americans, if necessary.
Khomeini's comments place him slightly to the right of the U.S. Department of State, which concedes that the country is a sponsor of global terror, but also characterizes the nation as a democracy.
Play Ball
The Boston Red Sox, always in need of pitching, sprung a surprise on their fans Saturday. In that citadel of baseball, the greensward known as Fenway Park, the Sox handed the ball to a seasoned but aging right-hander -- the wily veteran, Fred Barnes.
As the crafty hurler took to the mound the crowd cheered and after reveling briefly in the applause, Fred let one fly. Looks like he'll fit right into the Red Sox starting rotation.
