Let's check out some political stories we found Below the Fold:
Speaking Out
The Multnonmah County, Oregon Department of Human Services is seeking mental health specialists who speak such languages as Russian, Vietnamese -- and Klingon, a language created for Star Trek.
A county procurement specialist explains to the AP: "We have to provide information in all the languages our clients speak."
Call of the Wild
Meanwhile, Oregon state officials have warned outdoorsmen to hit the wilderness laden with portable toilets -- buckets will do -- or face $500 fines.
The move comes after a one-year educational campaign, in which the state informed would-be squatters that waste products are unsanitary. It is not clear whether educational brochures are yet available in Klingon.
Court Costs
Bill Gates, check your portfolio: The Federal Trade Commission has threatened to sue Microsoft for failing to provide adequate password security for users of the company's hallmark operating system.
The FTC is contemplating a fine of $11,000 per user. At 200 million users, that comes to a potential fine of $2.2 trillion.
NY State of Mind
New York City Councilman Peter Vallone Jr., miffed that the city pays $3.5 billion more to the state in taxes than it receives in aid, wants the city to secede and become America's 51st state.
The suggestion has enraged everyone from hard-boiled Gothamites to average Americans disappointed that New York City does not qualify as a separate planet.
