Hours after making an historic landing aboard a moving aircraft carrier, President Bush told sailors manning the USS Abraham Lincoln Thursday that "major combat operations in Iraq have ended."

"Operation Iraqi Freedom was carried out with a combination of precision, speed and boldness the enemy did not expect, and the world had not seen before," Bush told a sea of blue and khaki standing on the flight deck. "Marines and soldiers charged to Baghdad (search) across 350 miles of hostile ground, in one of the swiftest advances of heavy arms in history. You have shown the world the skill and might of the American armed forces."

Bush said the coalition that had liberated Iraq from dictator Saddam Hussein is now working to secure and reconstruct the country. The coalition aims to build schools and hospitals, prosecute Iraqi leaders and find weapons of mass destruction.

Bush's victory at sea: Stunt, or stunning?

A sample of your responses:

STUNNING! I watched that entire event last evening and was absolutely thrilled. Only the world's worst cynic could have seen all that as a stunt. President Bush obviously loves the military and the military knows it.

GWB is doing this strictly for political GAIN. It is nothing more that a Dog and Pony Show. Iraq is not liberated it is occupied. The Economy is sinking all around him so he brings out his war toys and tin soldiers to play with.

Why did the President fly in a jet air craft and land on the Lincoln Air Craft Carrier ?  What if ?  What if ?  What if he had crashed ? What if ? I say "KUDOS'" Mr. President. What a spirit lift for our troops and our free Americans. The President is in thousands upon thousands of 'what if' situations and his decision to go the the Lincoln was very brave and in my mind it makes him a hero to think of our troops and be willing to go through the lip service that he will be receiving (especially from democrats and others) for the next few weeks.

Absolutely stunning!  The President epitomized the title of Commander and Chief!  It shows the level of respect he has for the men and women in the U.S Armed Forces, the respect they so very much deserve. Contrary to the blatant distaste that had been exhibited during the 8 years of the previous administration!

STUNNING! It was fabulous watching the president land and go among the troops to thank them for all that they had done. This is one president that I love to see a lot of.

STUNNING! I thought it was wonderful.  I think he showed our enemies we are strong.  More importantly he showed our soldiers his support.  After all the Hollywood bashing and the Dixie Chicks mess, our people putting their lives on the line for freedom need a little extra show of support.  He made me PROUD to be an America.  Go Bush!

On President Bush, we couldn't be any prouder of this man he is a true American.  Isn't it nice that he can actually welcome someone into his home here in the US unlike Clinton that didn't have a home of his own and had to mooch off wealthy friends or soil US property.
