Elected to the Senate at in 1996, Torricelli is a member of the Governmental Affairs Committee, Finance Committee, Rules Committee, and Foreign Relations Committee.

Previous to that he served the 9th Congressional District in the House of Representatives for 14 years.

During the Carter administration, Bob came to Washington to serve as a counsel to Vice- President Walter Mondale after receiving his Masters degree in Public Administration from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government in 1980. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from Rutgers University.
