It was a rough Olympics for America's representatives on the artificial turf at Riverbank Arena, as the United States field hockey squad lost a classification match Friday to finish winless in London.
After going 0-5 in group play, they were matched up against Belgium Friday to battle for a better place in the world rankings. Although the United States scored first on a goal from Paige Selenski, they couldn't hold on, with Belgium striking twice to take a 2-1 victory and the 11th spot in the 12-team field hockey tournament.
The United States wasn't far from faring significantly better at the Olympics: of the six matches they played, five were decided by one goal. But they got the short end of the stick in all five matches: they leave London at 0-6 and hoping for a better performance in four years in Rio.
