Despite some rain earlier in the day, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams were able to get on track for Friday's lone practice round in advance of Sunday's Bad Boy Off Road 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

And when the 85-minute session was complete, Kyle Larson was atop the leader board with a best lap of 135.941 miles per hour in the No. 42 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet.

Second fast at 135.893 mph was the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet of rookie Chase Elliott. Kevin Harvick, Carl Edwards and Martin Truex Jr. completed the top five.

Shortly before the end of practice, Austin Dillon crashed in Turn 1 and heavily damaged his Richard Childress Racing Chevy. Considering Dillon was 30th in practice and he's 13th in points, the crash was not good news for the driver. He'll have to go to a backup car for the race.

Sunday's battle at NHMS is the second of three races in the first round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Four of the 16 drivers in the Chase will be eliminated at the end of the first round, which concludes next Sunday at Dover International Speedway.

Qualifying is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. ET today, with two additional rounds of practice on Saturday.
