Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

Midfielder Roger Espinoza sprained his right ankle late in Sporting Kansas City's 1-1 draw at Columbus and is expected to miss up to a month.

Espinoza hurt his ankle during stoppage time on Sunday. He had an MRI exam and X-rays in Columbus, Ohio, on Monday that revealed the extent of the injury.

Sporting KC, which leads the Eastern Conference, plays New York on Oct. 20 and finishes the regular season Oct. 24 against Philadelphia. Espinoza is expected to be back for the playoffs.

He will miss Honduras' World Cup qualifiers against Panama on Friday and Canada on Oct. 16.
