Sharper looking at the lockout from all angles

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

Even as Darren Sharper discusses his intention to extend his highlight-filled pro career to a 15th season, he allows himself to utter the word, "retirement."

If the NFL lockout wipes out the season, Sharper says that might end his career.

Yet, if it merely shortens the season, Sharper says that might give him and other experienced players an edge in their efforts to keep playing because coaches will have less time to evaluate or develop young talent.

In the meantime, Sharper is working out in the New Orleans area, where on Wednesday he also announced a charity softball event he'll host on July 23 called "Home Runs for Kids."

The 35-year-old free agent says he's willing to play anywhere, but prefers to return to the Saints.
