Rams QB Case Keenum is 'surprised' and upset he's being benched for Jared Goff

Los Angeles Rams fans got their wish Tuesday, when coach Jeff Fisher announced that No. 1 pick Jared Goff will replace struggling Case Keenum at quarterback.

Many have wondered why this decision took so long, as the Rams offense has sputtered this season. Los Angeles is 31st in total offense, gaining just 308 yards a game, and is last in scoring at just 15.4 points per game.

It seemed obvious that a change needed to be made. Well, obvious to everyone except Keenum, who voiced his displeasure with the decision Wednesday.

"Honestly, I wasn't happy," Keenum told reporters. "I want to play. That's why I play football, to be the quarterback and the guy with the ball in his hands.

"With that being said I trust Coach Fisher. I trust these coaches and their decision. I'm a captain and I have to do my job. My job is whatever they tell me my job is."

Keenum has thrown for 2,169 yards with nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions for the Rams, who have scored a combined 29 points in their past three games.

Los Angeles is still in the hunt for a playoff berth, sitting at 4-5. But the franchise appears ready to hand the keys to Goff and see what the rookie can do, starting Sunday against the Dolphins.
