PEDs overshadow what's setting up to be an exciting 2nd half in major leagues

Published January 13, 2015

Much of the focus as baseball heads into the second half of the season is on the possible suspensions of Alex Rodriguez, Ryan Braun and a handful of All-Stars implicated in the Biogenesis performance-enhancing drug scandal.

But Puigmania, a Pirates revival and one impressive power show in Baltimore could shift attention back onto the field.

The American League won the All-Star game on Tuesday night, giving home-field advantage in the World Series back to the junior circuit after three years of NL dominance.

Now the race is on to get to the Fall Classic. St. Louis and Boston have the best records in their leagues right now but only Atlanta has a division lead of more than five games. All the playoff spots are still up for grabs.
