Padres place LHP Thatcher on DL

The San Diego Padres placed pitcher Joe Thatcher on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 26, on Monday because of right knee tendinitis.

The left-hander was 0-4 this season with a 3.42 earned run average in 40 games this season. The 30-year-old holds a 4-10 career mark and owns a 3.37 ERA in his six-year career.

The Padres recalled right-handed pitcher Brad Boxberger from Triple-A Tucson. Boxberger previously appeared in five games for San Diego this season and has allowed one earned run over 6 1/3 innings.
