No. 2 Oregon is not all about the O; The D deserves some recognition, too

Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

Oregon defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti is a perfectionist. While the Ducks have allowed opponents an average of just 9 points per game, Aliotti says he's always looking to turn good into great.

Truth be told, while Oregon's opponents have not really challenged the second-ranked Ducks, the defense has increasingly shown its dexterity, most recently against Tennessee and its big offensive line.

It's no secret that Oregon's quick-strike offense is also making the defense better.

Oregon's offense averages just over 22 minutes of possession per game. Twenty-one of Oregon's 25 scoring drives have taken less than two minutes.

That means the defense is on the field a lot. Aliotti has responded by developing a system that quickly rotates players in and out, keeping the Ducks fresh.
